About this calculator
This calculator adds or strips sales tax from any price in seconds. Enter an amount, pick a tax rate — Ontario's 13 percent HST, GST plus provincial tax, or any custom VAT rate — and choose whether to add tax to a pre-tax price or extract it from a tax-included one. It shows the tax portion and the before/after totals.
Adding tax multiplies by (1 + rate); removing it divides by (1 + rate). That division step trips people up — 13 percent HST on a $113 total is $13, not $14.69, because the tax is 13 percent of the pre-tax $100, not of the total.
Tip: Most provinces combine taxes into one HST number (13 percent in Ontario, 15 percent in the Atlantic provinces), while Alberta, BC, and others split GST and PST — pick the right one for your province.
