Paid revenue equals subscribers × conversion rate × price × (1 − platform fee). The benchmark conversion is 5 to 10 percent of free readers to paid — so a 5,000-subscriber newsletter at 7 percent converting at $8/month nets around $2,500 after typical fees.
Tip: Grow the free list first and convert later — every thousand free subscribers at a 7 percent conversion rate is seventy paying members, so audience building is the revenue strategy.
