ðĶī Pet Food Portions
Daily feeding amount by pet weight and activity
About this calculator
Guessing portions leads to overweight pets, so this calculator works from your pet's weight and activity level. Enter weight, species, age, and lifestyle (neutered, active, weight-loss) and it estimates daily calorie needs, converting them into grams or cups of your specific food using its kcal-per-cup figure.
The base is resting energy requirement: 70 Ã (weight in kg)^0.75, multiplied by a life-stage factor â about 1.6 for neutered adults, up to 3 for puppies. That exponent is why a 40 kg dog needs far less than twice the food of a 20 kg dog.
Tip: Treats count â keep them under 10 percent of daily calories, and measure food with a scale rather than a scoop, which routinely over-serves by 20 percent.
